What are ZERO Noodles?

Used in Asian cookery for centuries, ZERO Noodles (also available in Rice, Fettuccini and Lasagna style) are a healthy low calories, low carb noodles, rice & pasta substitute and they can be incorporated into almost any dish in order to bulk and satisfy as would pasta, bread, rice or potato.

Made from glucomannan, a type of fibre that comes from the root of the konjac plant, they quickly lead to a sense of fullness, but only provide 5 calories per 100g serve. As such, they are a boon to dieters on low calorie, low carbohydrate, low GI, fat free, sugar free or detox diets.

Also suitable for vegans and people with diabetes, as well as people with wheat intolerance or allergies to gluten, dairy, egg or soy. They are given a Low FODMAP “Pass” at ½ “packet” or 125 g

What are ZERO Noodles made from?

ZERO Noodles (including Rice, Fettuccini and Lasagna style) are made from the Konjac plant and they are 97% water and 3% soluble fibre – called glucomannan -- (plus a natural calcium additive to help the noodles keep their shape). That’s it!

Are ZERO Noodles natural, or are they “franken food”?

There’s a simple rule for nutrition - if the ingredients of a product have to be listed in a lengthy paragraph and there are several words in there that you can’t even identify or pronounce, it’s probably not good for you.

The opposite is also true. If the ingredients are only one simple line with ingredients that you recognize (and don’t sound like crazy chemicals) then it’s probably good for you.

The ZERO Noodles (and Rice, Fettuccini & Lasagna) are a prime example of this. There are only three simple ingredients in our noodles – purified water, organic certified Konjac flour and calcium additive (old-fashioned pickling lime), packed in a BPA free packet. That is it!

Konjac flour is a fibre that comes from the Konjac plant. The Konjac flour helps to improve digestion and is good for your intestines. The fibre also makes you feel fuller longer.

ZERO Noodles also contain natural prebiotics – a key ingredient (especially in today’s environment) when it comes to gut health and inner balance. Prebiotics are precursors to probiotics, and konjac root powder is a prebiotic that feeds the friendly bacteria in the intestine.

Glucomannan, like all prebiotics, passes through the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract and remains undigested because the human body can’t fully break it down. But once prebiotics reach the colon, where they’re fermented by the gut microflora, they create probiotics.

How can ZERO Noodles help me lose weight?

ZERO Noodles can be a powerful weight loss tool, as they are high in glucomannan, a type of fibre that apart having impressive health benefits, has been shown to cause weight loss in numerous studies.

Their viscous fibre delays stomach emptying, so you stay full longer and end up eating less. In addition, fermenting fibre into short-chain fatty acids can stimulate the release of a gut hormone that increases feelings of fullness.

They also contain a lot of water. In fact, they are about 97% water and 3% glucomannan fibre.

If you eat ZERO Noodles for lunch or dinner once a day instead of regular high- calorie pasta and rice dishes, you'll slash, on the conservative side, at least 2800 calories per week! How's that possible? An average person eats about 400 calories worth of high-carb pasta or rice at one sitting (x7 = 2800). That's 11,200 calories per month!

You can see how easy it is to lose weight just by eating something delicious once a day. Now imagine how much easier your weight loss will be eating ZERO Noodles for both lunch and dinner!

P.S. They’re also low carb!

I follow the Paleo diet... Are these noodles OK to eat?

ZERO Noodles are perfect for the Paleo Diet because they are low/no carb, grain-free, gluten-free and 100% natural.

Many of our customers follow the Paleo diet, and they’ve told us that being able to substitute pasta, rice and potatoes with ZERO Noodles (or Rice, Fettuccini & Lasagna) makes it easy to stay on their diet plan and succeed.

I’m on the Keto diet. Are ZERO Noodles low in carbs?

Yes! ZERO Noodles naturally contain zero net carbohydrates and zero net calories. They are NOT processed — or fake — foods! Made from the Konjac plant, they are 97% water and 3% soluble fibre, plus a natural calcium additive to help the noodles keep their shape. That’s it!

ZERO Noodles give low carbohydrate dieters the freedom to enjoy the bliss of eating noodles and rice without the high calories, high carbohydrates, and blood sugar spikes.

I’m watching my blood sugar. Are ZERO Noodles safe to eat?

Regular noodles, rice and pasta are high on the glycaemic index, the scale that measures how quickly a certain food can raise blood sugar levels, so they are are a no-no on your approved diet list. At least that’s what you may have been told by your doctor or nutritionist.

ZERO Noodles, contains zero net calories and zero net carbs and have a glycaemic index score of zero, meaning it will not spike your blood sugar levels at all.

Thousands of people have improved their blood sugar balance and lost significant weight and managed to stay on a low-carb diet just by incorporating ZERO Noodles into their diet.

Are ZERO Noodles Low Fodmap?

Yes! ZERO Noodles, Rice, Fettuccini & Lasagna are  low FODMAP in 100g portions, drained, right out of the package.

I suffer from IBS...Can I eat your noodles?

Some IBS patients benefit from increasing the fibre content of their diet. When it comes to fibre, increase this slowly and ensure a water intake of 1.5-2L/day.

Try introducing ZERO Noodles into your diet by having a small portion and be alert for any negative reactions to this food.

I am vegetarian and I only eat gluten-free foods. Are ZERO Noodles ok for me?

Yes, they are! Our products are Vegan and are made from three simple ingredients – purified water, certified organic Konjac flour and calcium additive (old-fashioned pickling lime). The calcium additive is used as a shape stabilizer for the noodles and completely natural.

You can now have your noodles and eat them, too...without the wheat.

Can my kids eat ZERO Noodles?

Yes! Kids in Asia enjoy big blocks of konnyaku (which is the same ingredient but in blocks not noodles) in their stews and soups.

When you can focus on high-quality ingredients in the rest of the meal as they do in Asia, the ZERO Noodles just make it even healthier by avoiding the high starch and high sugar foods commonly overeaten by today's kids.

What is the shelf-life of ZERO Noodles? And what is the best way to store them?

ZERO Noodles, Rice & Pasta have a shelf life of 2 years (from production) at room temperature.

You can store them in the pantry as they are shelf stable. There is no need to refrigerate but DO NOT freeze them as this will make the noodles/rice inedible.

Once the bag is opened and you decide to only eat half a bag, place the unprepared portion in water in a sealed container and refrigerate. These noodles will last another 7 days this way. It is recommended to change the water every couple of days.

When the noodles are already prepared in a sauce, refrigerate in a sealed container, and the noodles will last another 2-4 days, this depending on the sauce.

Leftovers are delicious the next day as the noodles will fully absorb the flavours of the foods they are in. Feel free to reheat for a short time in the microwave or on the stove.

How do I prepare them?

Open the packaging, put contents directly in a strainer/colander and rinse under running water for 20 seconds, then pat dry with paper towel.

They are now ready to add them to your favourite sauce or stir fry. With no flavour of their own – they easily absorb the flavours of any soup or dish.

You can also try the “Asian dry roast method”. Heat a non stick pan and when hot, add the rinsed noodles and dry roast for around a minute. When dry, they are ready to add to to your favourite sauce or stir fry.

Tip: if making a stir fry or pasta, I suggest adding rinsed noodles or pasta to a hit dry pan. This will evaporate the residual water and not water down your dish.

What do ZERO Noodles, Rice & Pasta taste like?

Our entire range of ZERO Noodles, Rice & Pasta have no real flavour but absorb flavours instead.

You will need to treat them as you would any other normal noodle, rice or pasta by adding ingredients (eg, sauces, spices, protein, vegetables).

I have bought other Konjac brands and you are hit by a strong smell that I find off putting when you open their packet.

Yes other brands of konjac or shirataki noodles have a a distinct odour when you first open the packet. We have worked for several years to eliminate this problem.

You will find that our brand of ZERO Noodles, Pasta and Rice which is made of the very best certified organic konjac available is also packed in purified water in a BPA free packet, has little to no odour.

Are the ZERO Noodles, Rice & Pasta range Organic?

Yes. We have the only Konjac products in Australia and New Zealand that are Australian Certified Organic (NASAA approved - 5457P), packed in purified water in a BPA free packaging.

Are ZERO Noodles, Rice & Pasta OK for diabetics?

The Glucomannan in ZERO Noodles has been shown to help lower blood sugar levels in people with diabetes and insulin resistance.

Because the viscous fibre delays stomach emptying, blood sugar and insulin levels rise more gradually as nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream.

Can ZERO Noodles, Rice & Pasta help lower my cholesterol?

Konjac root contains around 40% of the soluble fibre, glucomannan, which creates a feeling of fullness due to its very slow passage through the digestive tract and it is shown to lower cholesterol and balance blood sugar.

Do ZERO Noodles have any side effects?

ZERO Noodles are generally well-tolerated but like most high-fibre products, however, they may cause digestive problems such as diarrhoea, loose stools and flatulence but these side effects were reportedly experienced after excessive consumption so I dare say, as long as you chew your food and start slowly so that your body gets used to increasing amounts of fibre you’re unlikely to experience these side effects.

Enza Giardina, Naturopath and founder of ZERO Noodles, also advises consumers to make sure to include high-quality ingredients like vegetables and protein in the rest of the meal as ZERO Noodles is basically a fibre supplement, not a food.

There are no other nutrients in these noodles and if eaten too regularly and without nutritious accompaniment, you may risk malnutrition – especially if restricting consumption of a whole group of foods while following a strict diet.

When you can focus on high-quality ingredients in the rest of the meal as they do in Asia, the ZERO Noodles just makes your meal even healthier by avoiding the high starch and high sugar foods commonly overeaten today.
